Kwania, Uganda | The territorial Police in Kwania District are investigating a murder case following the death of a 50-year-old woman died in Kwania District after an alleged assault reportedly triggered by a UGX 7,000 maize debt dispute.
According to police, the incident occurred on February 15, 2026, at about 11:00am at Aweiwot Trading Centre in Ayabi Sub-county.
Meanwhile, authorities identified the deceased as Apio Everlyn, a peasant farmer from Ogwil Village in Ogwil Parish, Kwania District.
Earlier, Apio reportedly went to demand payment from Alobo Flavia for maize she had previously supplied.
Subsequently, a misunderstanding erupted inside a local produce shop and quickly escalated into a heated quarrel between the two women.
Additionally, police allege that during the confrontation, Alobo Flavia physically attacked Apio as tensions flared before traders.
Furthermore, investigators state that Oyom Edmond joined the altercation and slapped the victim from behind.
Moreover, witnesses say the confrontation appeared brief, yet the impact on Apio’s health later proved devastating.
Thereafter, Apio returned home and remained resting quietly until her condition worsened hours later.
Consequently, at around 6:00pm, her son rushed her to a nearby drug shop seeking urgent medical attention.
Nevertheless, her health continued deteriorating, and she later died at a clinic in Alac Village.
In response, Ngura Nelson reported the matter at Ayabi Town Council Police Station before officers registered it as murder at Kwania Central Police Station.
As a result, IP Dila Maxwell led a team to visit the scene alongside CID officers and the Scene of Crime personnel.
Later, the team processed the crime scene, photographed key areas, drew sketch plans, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
At the mortuary, a police surgeon conducted a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
During the investigation, authorities confirmed they had not yet arrested the suspects but intensified efforts to trace them.
By press time, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema urged residents to remain calm and cooperate fully.
Ultimately, investigators continue gathering evidence, hoping community cooperation will help deliver justice in a case rooted in a minor debt dispute.
