67-Year-Old Man Treks from Kampala to Kitgum for Janani Luwum Day

KAMPALA, UGANDA — Meanwhile, a powerful story of faith is unfolding on Uganda’s highways as 67-year-old Thomas Tokwiny Musolini treks on foot from Kampala to Kitgum to celebrate St Janani Luwum Day on February 16. Notably, Musolini launched the journey to thank God for years of safety during his long career as a driver.
A Walk Rooted in Gratitude
Initially, Musolini began his trek on January 26 from St Peter’s Church, Naguru, located in Kampala’s Nakawa Division. Soon after, he set his sights on Wii-gweng in Mucwini, Kitgum District, where thousands will gather for national prayers. Importantly, the annual event honors St Janani Luwum, the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.
Moreover, Musolini explained that the walk represents a personal act of thanksgiving. Previously, he spent decades driving long distances across the country. Because of that, he chose walking as a symbolic way to acknowledge divine protection on the road.
From Steering Wheel to Footpath
Along the way, residents along the Kampala–Gulu highway have welcomed Musolini with cheers and encouragement. In addition, well-wishers have offered water, meals, and prayers. However, the journey has presented serious challenges. At times, intense heat and long distances have tested his strength. Even so, Musolini continues steadily, relying on prayer and discipline. Ultimately, Musolini hopes to reach Kitgum before February 16. Then, he plans to join fellow pilgrims in prayers and remembrance. Historically, security forces murdered St Janani Luwum in 1977 during the Idi Amin regime. Since then, Ugandans have remembered him as a symbol of courage and truth.
