BREAKING NEWS: TRAGEDY IN OPETE AS TODDLER PERISHES IN PETROL FIRE

Kitgum: A sad mood has engulfed the village of Opete in lukwo parish ,labongo Amida sub county in kitgum district following a horrific fire incident this evening that claimed the life of a three year old child and left a mother fighting for her life.
According to eyewitness accounts,the tragedy was sparked by the domestic storage of highly flammable fuel. The mother, whose identity is yet to be formally released, reportedly operates a small scale business selling petrol. Her trade involves repackaging fuel into small water bottles to sell to local consumers within the village.
Reports indicate that she had purchased a 20-liter jerrycan of petrol . After repackaging the fuel for resale, the containers were unfortunately stored inside a structure used as a kitchen.
While cooking was underway, the petrol fumes are believed to have ignited, causing a massive fire that rapidly consumed the building.
A three year old child who was inside the house at the time was burnt to death.The mother was rescued from the flames but is currently reportedly unconscious and in critical condition at the general hospital.
A Local resident who reached out to our news desk expressed deep shock highlighting the growing dangers of fuel vending in residential areas, where safety protocols are often non existent.
