Gulu Councillors Approve Handover of Pece War Memorial Stadium for AFCON 2027 Redevelopment

 

Gulu district councilors have unanimously agreed to hand over Pece War Memorial Stadium to the National Council of sports for redevelopment in preparation of the African Cup of Nations set for 2027.

 

Ambrose Tashobya, the Chairperson of National Council of Sports says the development work which will be undertaken by the engineering brigade of the Uganda people’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

 

Phoebe Ayo, the district speaker while chairing the session noted that the council is not against any development.

 

Gulu district councilors last month unanimously asked for more time to consult on the handover of Pece War Memorial Stadium to the National Council of Sports (NCS) who intend to upgrade it ahead of 2027 African Cup of Nations (Afcon).

 

  1. The NSC had requested for the transfer of ownership of the stadium and surrounding land which includes plot 84-92 on Jomo Kenyatta road and plot 13-19 on Moroto road to them for upgrade works to commence.
