Prices of red meat at Gulu Main Market have started to fall as the festive season comes to an end, bringing relief to consumers after weeks of high holiday prices.

During the festive period, demand for meat surged, pushing prices up across the market. However, traders report that with celebrations winding down and household spending easing, prices are now adjusting to more affordable levels.
Currently, beef prices that was previously selling at UGX 18,000 has now dropped to UGX 15,000 per kilogram, while goat’s meat, which was previously selling at UGX 25,000 and UGX 20,000 is now going for UGX 18,000 per kilogram.
Market vendors say the reduction is driven by decreased demand and a steady supply of livestock entering the city.
Many buyers have welcomed the change, noting that the lower prices make it easier for families to include meat in their daily meals after the costly festive season.
Traders in Gulu City Main Market anticipate that prices may remain stable in the coming weeks unless demand rises again due to special events or market disruptions.
For now, residents are encouraged to take advantage of the improved affordability as the city settles back into normal trading patterns.
