UNICEF-Sponsored Digital Training Empowers Youth in Lamwo

At least 100 young people, aged between 10 and 24 years, are currently undergoing technically computer training at Padibe Comprehensive Secondary School in Padibe Town Council, Lamwo District, under a program sponsored by UNICEF. This initiative aims to equip youth in the district with essential technological and computer skills required to navigate today’s increasingly technology-driven world.

The training is designed to help young people gain proficiency in key technological tools. The curriculum covers computer operations, word processing, internet use, and responsible technology engagement. The program draws participants from various communities within the district, providing them with much-needed opportunities to learn valuable skills that are critical in both education and employment.

Mr. Okwera James, an ICT teacher at Padibe Comprehensive Secondary School, serves as one of the trainers facilitating the program. He emphasized that the training is tailored to meet the specific needs of rural youth who often lack access to formal computer education. According to Mr. Okwera, acquiring these technical skills is vital for enhancing young people’s education, employability, and ability to innovate in the future.

The program also highlights the importance of digital safety and responsibility. Through hands-on sessions, participants are encouraged to use digital platforms wisely, avoiding harmful online behaviors and ensuring their actions contribute to positive online communities. In addition to technical skills, the program aims to empower young people to use digital tools for effective communication, learning, and personal growth.

This UNICEF-supported initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the school and local stakeholders. It is expected to bridge the digital divide, giving young people the confidence to embrace technology. By providing these critical skills, the program seeks to prepare the youth of Lamwo District to compete in the global technological economy and tackle future challenges with confidence.
