Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Welcomes Mobile TB Clinic to Improve Access to Healthcare
A New Era in TB Diagnosis and Treatment

Gulu Referral Hospital in northern Uganda has officially received a state-of-the-art Mobile Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic, a game-changer in the fight against the disease. This mobile unit is designed to bring essential TB diagnosis and treatment services closer to underserved communities, especially in remote areas where healthcare access is limited. The mobile clinic aims to enhance early detection and provide patients with timely interventions.
Improved Access for Rural Communities
With a mobile clinic, health workers can now travel directly to rural villages in the Gulu District, where healthcare facilities are often scarce.
The initiative will benefit thousands of people living in hard-to-reach areas, ensuring they receive screening and follow-up treatment for TB without having to travel long distances to the hospital.
The mobile unit is equipped with modern diagnostic tools, including digital X-rays and GeneXpert machines for rapid testing.
Partnerships Drive the Initiative Forward
The mobile TB clinic was funded through a collaboration between the Ugandan government, international organizations, and local NGOs focused on healthcare access.
The project reflects ongoing efforts to address the high TB burden in northern Uganda, which remains one of the most affected regions in the country.
Local authorities have expressed optimism that the clinic will significantly reduce TB-related mortality rates and support national TB eradication goals.
Community Outreach and Education
Alongside testing and treatment, the mobile clinic also serves as a platform for raising awareness about TB prevention.
Public health campaigns will educate residents on the importance of regular check-ups, proper hygiene, and the need for early treatment to prevent the disease from spreading.
Local leaders and health workers have already begun organizing community meetings to ensure widespread participation and understanding of TB services.
A Personal Commitment from Dr. Okot Philip
Dr. Okot Philip, One of the doctors at Gulu Referral Hospital, expressed his excitement for the new facility: “As we received the Mobile TB Clinic at GRRH, we will serve the Acholi subregion at large with this fully equipped clinic.”
His words underscore the impact this clinic will have on improving healthcare delivery in the area, offering much-needed support to thousands of individuals who previously had limited access to TB services.

Looking Ahead: A Model for Other Regions
As the program rolls out in Gulu, health officials hope to replicate this model in other regions across Uganda. The success of the mobile clinic could inspire similar initiatives in neighboring countries battling TB.
With ongoing support and expansion, the mobile TB clinic promises to be a vital tool in the global effort to eradicate tuberculosis.
