South Sudan Delegation Strengthens Cross-Border Faith Ties in Northern Uganda
Meanwhile, a South Sudanese delegation from South Sudan have arrived in northern Uganda for a four-day pastoral fellowship retreat strengthening faith-based cooperation and relations.
Additionally, officials said the visit aimed to deepen cross-border relations through prayer, dialogue, and shared community engagements.
Meanwhile, local church leaders expressed optimism that the retreat would inspire unity among congregations on both sides.
Arrival and Reception
Subsequently, the group entered Uganda on Thursday January 29th 2026 through Ngomoromo Border Post in Lamwo District amid tight security.
Moreover, Lamwo Resident District Commissioner William Komakech and District Chairperson Oyet Sisto Ocen welcomed the visitors alongside security and immigration officials.
Notably, full security was assured to the delegation by district authorities throughout their stay in Lamwo during the retreat period.
Leadership and Purpose
Meanwhile, the delegation is led by Eastern Equatoria State Speaker Rt. Hon. Charles Udwat Ukech, who thanked Uganda for hospitality.
Similarly, participants said cross-border worship builds trust, heals memories, and encourages cooperation among youth women leaders from border communities region.
Furthermore, he emphasized shared Christian values as vital foundations for peace, reconciliation, and cooperation between border communities in region.
Fellowship Program
Additionally, participants include government officials, religious leaders, Legion of Mary members, and a large church choir.
Then, the program features visits to Lokung Parish Lamwo Christ the King Parish Kitgum and dioceses in Pader Agago.
Subsequently, the delegation will also engage faithful in Pader and Agago districts before returning home.
Security and Coordination
Meanwhile, Aswa East Region Police spokesperson IP Oloya Joe confirmed coordinated security arrangements for the entire visit.
Accordingly, district authorities are working jointly with the UPDF to maintain safety and smooth movement.
Consequently, organizers described the fellowship as a model for people-centered diplomacy anchored in faith and culture.
Finally, the delegation is expected to return to South Sudan on February 1st after concluding all activities as planned.
