Meanwhile, Lamwo District expects to receive thousands of coffee seedlings during the first rainy season, according to District Chairperson Oyet Sisto Ocen.
Additionally, the district plans to distribute the seedlings to at least 400 registered coffee farmers to boost commercial agriculture.
Speaking to NGUNAGULU, Oyet explained that coffee farming continues to gain steady momentum across the district.
Consequently, many farmers now show growing interest after positively responding to government-led agricultural transformation programmes.
Furthermore, district leaders have prioritized coffee production because the crop offers a reliable market and long-term income security.
As a result, authorities believe coffee farming can generate more sustainable earnings than traditional subsistence crops.
Moreover, Oyet urged all registered farmers to prepare their gardens early ahead of the expected rains.
In addition, he advised farmers to clear land, dig appropriate planting holes, and organize farm inputs in advance.
Similarly, the chairperson encouraged agricultural extension workers to provide continuous technical support to participating farmers.
Specifically, extension officers will guide farmers on proper spacing, mulching, soil management, and effective pest control measures.
Meanwhile, district agricultural officials emphasized that strict adherence to recommended practices improves yields and plant survival rates.
Therefore, farmers received reminders that poor farm management could reduce productivity and delay expected benefits.
At the same time, Oyet highlighted that coffee farming demands patience, discipline, and consistent care from planting to harvesting.
Consequently, the district leadership plans to closely monitor farmer progress throughout the growing season.
Notably, several Ugandan districts with similar climatic conditions have achieved strong economic gains from coffee production.
For that reason, Lamwo leaders remain confident that coffee will thrive and uplift household incomes across the district.
Additionally, increased coffee output is expected to stimulate local trade and create employment opportunities, especially for youth.
Likewise, higher earnings from coffee sales could improve access to education, healthcare, and food security for families.
Ultimately, Oyet stressed that committed farmers can use coffee production to strengthen Lamwo’s local economy.
Finally, district authorities encouraged farmers to seek expert guidance, cooperate with extension workers, and treat coffee farming as a long-term investment.
