Kitgum, Uganda; In a decisive move, Kitgum High School has discontinued 60 students over indiscipline and poor academic performance this term amid ongoing crackdown.
According to Head-teacher Christopher Opoka, administrators made the decision after a thorough review of student conduct and academic progress.
Meanwhile, the current senior six recorded the highest number, with 36 learners asked to seek alternative schools immediately within the district this year.
However, senior two and three together accounted for 24 expulsions following repeated disciplinary and academic concerns raised by school administrators.
Notably, cases ranged from sneaking mobile phones into dormitories to drunkenness and unauthorized escapes from campus during restricted study hours.
In addition, theft of school property shocked administrators after students allegedly carted away 130 plastic chairs from the main hall.
Furthermore, teachers and local authorities recovered only 17 despite intensified efforts to trace the missing furniture quickly.
Consequently, the administration insists firm action is necessary to restore discipline and protect the school’s academic reputation in the region.
As a result, the school has urged parents to reinforce guidance at home and monitor their children’s behavior closely.
Similarly, the Board of Governors supports the tough stance, emphasizing accountability and consistent enforcement of established rules across all classes.
On the other hand, the Parent Teachers’ Association maintains that collaboration between families and administrators remains essential for lasting reform.
For instance, strict regulations now govern technology use, permitting only registered iPads and laptops under supervised conditions within school premises.
Subsequently, students must declare their devices with the administration before accessing digital learning resources during approved academic sessions only.
Therefore, leaders believe the crackdown will deter future misconduct and improve overall academic performance across the entire student body.
Moreover, Opoka stresses that discipline and excellence must move together if learners are to succeed in today’s competitive environment.
In response, some affected families are already exploring transfers to neighboring institutions within Kitgum District for continuity of studies.
Ultimately, school officials argue the measures signal zero tolerance for behavior that undermines safety and learning standards at campus.
Overall, the bold decision underscores Kitgum High School’s commitment to shaping responsible, high-performing students for Uganda’s future generations ahead.
