Police in Gulu City are investigating a shocking case of alleged murder by stabbing after a 19-year-old man was killed during an early morning altercation along Cemetery Road in Laroo-Pece Division.
The incident, which happened at around 4:30am, has left residents in fear and raised concerns about rising violence involving street youth and night businesses.
Victim Identified
According to Aswa West Police Spokesperson, ASP David Ongom Mudong, the deceased has been identified as Ayella Bismark, a 19-year-old resident of Pece Cubu, Laroo-Pece Division in Gulu City.
Preliminary reports indicate that a fight broke out between a group of street children and a chapatti maker after the group allegedly failed to pay the full amount for chapatis they had taken.
During the confrontation, the chapatti maker reportedly stabbed Ayella, killing him instantly.
Chaos Erupts After Killing
The fatal stabbing sparked immediate anger among other street children, who mobilized and retaliated violently.
The group reportedly:
- Stormed chapatti stalls and business premises along Cemetery Road
- Assaulted chapatti makers, neighbours, and bystanders
- Vandalized shops and looted property
- Set several kiosks on fire
The situation quickly escalated into chaos before authorities intervened.
Police and Fire Brigade Respond
Police registered a case of murder by stabbing under Gulu CPS CRB 104/2026.
Fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene and successfully extinguished the fires, preventing further destruction.
ASP Mudong confirmed that one suspect has been arrested to assist with investigations, while other suspects remain on the run.
