Media Must Obey the Law, Authorities Warn

National News: The government has reminded media houses and digital platforms that freedom of expression comes with responsibility, warning that violations of the law will attract firm action. Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, officials said broadcasters, publishers, and online creators must adhere to existing regulations designed to protect public order and democratic processes.

According to the authorities, airing violent scenes, promoting hateful messages, or circulating content that incites the public undermines national stability. They added that the spread of unverified election results remains a serious offense, particularly during sensitive political periods, because it can mislead citizens and trigger unrest.

Regulators noted that the rapid growth of social media has expanded access to information but also increased the risk of misinformation. As a result, enforcement agencies have strengthened monitoring mechanisms and are working closely with platform owners to identify and remove unlawful material.

Media leaders were urged to invest in fact-checking, editorial oversight, and professional training to ensure accuracy and balance in reporting. “Responsible journalism builds trust and strengthens society,” an official said, emphasizing that the law targets harmful conduct, not legitimate criticism.

Civil society groups welcomed the call for accountability but stressed the need for transparency in enforcement. They cautioned that regulations should be applied fairly to avoid intimidation of journalists.

The government concluded by encouraging the public to consume news from credible sources and report content that violates the law. Officials said compliance will safeguard peace, protect rights, and uphold the integrity of the media industry. Stakeholders pledged dialogue to promote lawful, ethical media.
