Police in Arua District have opened investigations into a fatal bus accident that killed three people at Odianyadri Trading Centre.

Accordingly, the road crash involved a Link Bus, registration number UBJ 736Z, which was traveling from Hoima toward Arua City.

Earlier, the tragic accident occurred at around 5:00 p.m. when vehicles were moving through the busy trading centre.

However, eyewitnesses said the situation suddenly turned deadly as the bus approached the centre at a relatively high speed.

Subsequently, the bus driver attempted to overtake a Noah vehicle along the same stretch of road.

Consequently, the bus crashed into a motorcycle that was carrying three men, killing them on the spot.

Notably, residents described the impact as violent, drawing large crowds within minutes of the collision.

Meanwhile, police officers from nearby posts rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls from residents.

Thereafter, officers secured the area to allow rescue efforts and preliminary investigations to proceed smoothly.

According to police, the deceased were identified as Anguyo, 35, who was riding the motorcycle at the time.

Additionally, the other victims were named as Santino Onzima, 50, and Raphael Madima, 55.

Notably, Madima served as the Local Council Chairperson of Cirifi Village in Vurra Sub-county.

Furthermore, authorities confirmed that all three victims were members of the same family.

As a result, grief and shock spread quickly throughout Cirifi Village and surrounding communities.

Subsequently, police transported the bodies to Arua Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Meanwhile, officers impounded the Link Bus and parked it at Arua Central Police Station for inspection.

However, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the accident.

Therefore, police launched a search for the suspect driver and appealed for public cooperation.

In response, traffic police warned motorists against reckless overtaking, especially at trading centres.

Similarly, officers emphasized that speeding remains a leading cause of fatal road accidents in Arua District.

Moreover, local leaders called for tighter road safety enforcement along highways passing through trading centres.

Ultimately, police said they will release more details after completing witness statements and vehicle inspections.
